Outside the local Target, two police officers pat down a man, his sweater lifted, arms suspended, a still-packaged hammer on the cement at his feet. Another woman with sharp cheeks shifts uneasily beyond him as he's seated on the bench. A glossy-haired man, with a shouldered leather briefcase and a radio and cup of Starbucks in his hands, walks back into the store with a police officer:

"If I had a gun, I'd shoot the guy!"

(chuckling) "Oh, that's not very nice."
